The fact that The Econimists´ columnist Schumpeter writes about ”the team-trend” in the corporate world, shows how strong this movement is. Evaluating weather teamwork is efficient by the experience of teamwork in traditional organisations as Deloitte, as Leigh Thompson does in the article, is a mistake though.
The big effect of teamwork occur when the team is self-organised (preferably with no manager) with full authorisation over its work.
These are seldom the conditions in traditional organisations. The author is however right that it is hard to make it work – mostly due to the need of shifting to a new mindset in leadership.
